Missions

Grounded in the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20, the LPC Mission Committee exists to promote the Gospel, make disciples, and reflect Christ by serving people in need, both locally and globally. This is accomplished through supporting groups and individuals by outreach, prayer and financial support. Examples include supporting Christian missionaries in the U.S. and globally, engaging in missions as a church, and engaging in relief efforts through mission trips and financially supporting organizations who provide for those in need.

  •     holy mountain parish

LPC and Holy Mountain Parish (HMP) officially began a sister church relationship in 2005. Located just a few miles from the airport, HMP is a member of the Kananga Presbytery, of the Congolese Presbyterian Church (CPC). Under the leadership of Rev. Kabasele (RK to his friends at LPC), HMP is a vibrant congregation. Three-hour Sunday services are the norm in the DRC. Our brothers and sisters at HMP are devoted to prayer (including all-night vigils at least monthly), evangelism, and service to those who cannot care for themselves. Unlike the USA, there is no Social Security, pensions, or public assistance of any kind. Those widows, orphans, disabled and elderly, who have no family or have been abandoned by them, are dependent upon the kindness of others for their very sustenance. HMP struggles to provide for “the least of these” in their community.

  • The lewes school at holy mountain parish

When our partnership with Holy Mountain Parish (HMP) was established in 2005; Education in Kananga DRC was available only to those children whose parents could afford to pay for it. Children had to walk many miles to the nearest school. In 2006, during the Lenten season, the members of LPC prayed for three children of the approximately 900 children of HMP by name. The Easter offering that year raised over $30,000 to build a school. The members of HMP had the school built in just a few months, ready for the children to start the 2006/07 school year in

September! Within a few years the Lewes School had grown to include K- 12 grades. Success rates for Lewes School students on required State testing at grades 6 and 12 consistently exceed those of students at the state-run schools.
