Lewes After School Program

The Lewes After School Program (LASP) is housed and supported by the Lewes Presbyterian Church.  LASP has been in operation since 2004.

The program follows the Cape Henlopen School District calendar and serves students in grades 1 – 5.  We offer activities that support topics learned during the day, in a fun and challenging way.

LASP is available for any student no matter what school they attend. However, a school bus, from Shields, brings students to the program at 3:30 pm.   Parents pick up at 6:15 pm.

At the Lewes After School Program, we strive to provide a high quality after school program designed for 1st – 5th grade youth to help achieve success in school and life.  We do this in partnership with our families, and community to provide a safe nurturing environment that promotes and models respect, positive self-esteem, academic achievement, communication, character development within a Christian framework.

Beyond focusing on a child’s academic or behavioral limitations, LASP helps the child look at his or her own potential through a variety of educational tools and experiences.

Enrichment

  • Literacy Education Assistance Pups (LEAP) and their handlers helps students improve reading fluency in a non-judgmental environment.

  • Kidz Lit® and Kidz Math® are research-based programs, aligned with Delaware standards, from the Center for the Collaborative Classroom and is designed for after-school settings.

  • LEGO Education & WeDo Software® is a hands-on STEM solution that combines LEGO bricks, classroom-friendly software, engaging standards-based projects and a discovery -based approach. Introducing students to computational thinking and engineering principles in a fun and engaging way.

  • LEGO Education Story Starter & Story Visualizer Software® targets the English Language Arts curriculum. Story Starter is designed to develop skills in speaking and listening, reading, language, writing and areas of technology and digital learning

Parents

We encourage parents to participate in the program by serving as volunteers and as members of our Advisory Committee.  Programs are offered during the school year that help involve parents in their child’s education.  LASP students are invited to attend Kids for Christ and Vacation Bible School.

Increasing school connectedness for our families is important.  Families receive a monthly newsletter that keeps them up to date with what’s going on at their child(s) school as well as LASP.
